British grown spring flowers in pastel shades, blues and lemons make a wonderful Mother’s day gift.
Although Mothering Sunday falls early in the British spring calendar, you will be amazed at the wealth of locally grown flowers that are available for posies, arrangements and door wreaths.
Scented flowers of hyacinth, violas, violets and narcissi give a hint of the summer which is just around the corner.
Yellows, lemons, white and shades of blue predominate and are a wonderful combination in a bouquet.
Of course, we must also include our native primrose which looks stunning arranged in a simple posy with grape hyacinth or sky blue scilla.
It is also likely that a number of growers may even have tulips in a vast palette of colours and delicate ‘rose like’ ranunculus available.
Statuesque alliums, tree blossom, forsythia, pussy willow and catkins provide structure and height in spring flower arrangements.
Often overlooked for spring flower arrangements are hellebores. Combine these with a few fritillaries, some herb foliage such as rosemary or variegated origanum and you have a bouquet fit to rival that of any rose.
